African history and culture, explored in depth.

Africa Rebirth is a digital publication exploring the people, ideas, and places that have shaped Africa—and continue to shape its future.

We publish stories about kingdoms and trade, colonialism and resistance, literature and belief, architecture and everyday life. Our aim is to help readers understand the continent through the experiences of its people, with attention to the detail and context that make each story worth telling.

Why Africa Rebirth exists

Africa’s histories offer an extraordinary range of human experience: societies building systems of government and exchange, communities defending their independence, artists giving form to new identities, and writers wrestling with belonging, power, and change.

We created Africa Rebirth to make those stories easier to discover and explore. We are interested in familiar figures seen from fresh angles, overlooked lives that deserve attention, and the connections between historical events and the world we inhabit today.

Our perspective is Pan-African, with an appreciation for the distinct histories, languages, and experiences of individual communities across the continent and its diaspora. We approach that diversity with curiosity and a willingness to engage with complexity, including difficult and contested histories.
