Africa Rebirth Media LLC ("Africa Rebirth," "we," "us," or "our") operates africarebirth.com. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use and disclose personal information when you visit our website, subscribe to updates, create a member account, or contact us.
All articles on Africa Rebirth are currently free to read. We do not require payment information to access them.
For privacy questions or requests, contact [email protected].
Information we collect
Information you provide. When you subscribe, register, or contact us, we may receive your name, email address, subscription preferences, and the information you choose to include in your message. If we offer comments, surveys, or contribution forms, we also receive the information you submit through them. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information that is unnecessary for your enquiry.
Information collected during a visit. Our website and its service providers may process your IP address, browser and device information, operating system, referring page, pages visited, approximate location inferred from technical information, visit times, clicks, and diagnostic information. Some information is collected through cookies, local storage, pixels, and similar technologies.
Information from other services. Loading externally hosted images or embedded surveys may also involve information collected by that provider. If you contact us through a social platform, we receive the information that platform makes available with your message.
How we use information
We use information to:
- Deliver the website, articles, and features you request.
- Manage member accounts and subscriptions, and send updates you have requested.
- Respond to enquiries, feedback, permission requests, and correction requests.
- Understand readership and improve content, navigation, accessibility, and performance.
- Diagnose errors, protect accounts, and prevent spam, fraud, and misuse.
- Meet applicable legal obligations and establish or defend legal claims.
Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, the basis depends on the activity: providing a requested service, complying with law, pursuing legitimate interests such as maintaining a secure publication, or obtaining consent where required. You may withdraw consent for processing that relies on it without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing.
Cookies and similar technologies
Some technologies support functions such as sign-in and security. Others support audience measurement or diagnostics. Google Analytics uses cookies including _ga and a property-specific _ga_ cookie. Ghost’s member-attribution feature also uses browser session storage, including a ghost-history entry.
Our website currently does not offer a cookie-consent banner or an on-site cookie preference control. Analytics can run when a page loads, before you take any action. Browser or provider controls may affect whether these services run.
You can manage or delete cookies through your browser. Blocking cookies may affect sign-in and other features. Deleting cookies may also remove saved preferences. A browser’s private-browsing mode does not necessarily prevent information from being transmitted to websites or their providers.
Analytics
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use Africa Rebirth. Google receives technical and activity information associated with website visits. Learn more at How Google uses information from sites that use its services. Google also offers a Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on for supported browsers and implementations.
Cloudflare Web Analytics
We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure website traffic and performance. Cloudflare describes this analytics service as operating without cookies or browser local storage and without fingerprinting individual visitors. This description applies to Web Analytics; Cloudflare’s separate security and website-delivery services may process other technical information. See Cloudflare Web Analytics.
Hosting, membership, and embedded services
Africa Rebirth uses Ghost software for publishing, newsletters, and member features, DigitalOcean for hosting, and Cloudflare for website delivery and security. Ghost’s Portal and search features load software from the jsDelivr content-delivery network. Our hosting, security, email-delivery, and other support providers process information needed to operate those services.
Some images are delivered by external providers, including Cloudinary, Unsplash, and Gravatar. These providers may receive technical information, such as your IP address and browser information, when an image loads.
Some articles contain SurveyPlanet surveys. The embedded survey loads when you open the article, which can send technical information to SurveyPlanet before you submit a response. If you participate, the information you choose to submit is processed through that service. Avoid entering sensitive information unless it is necessary and you understand how it will be used.
Our social-sharing and profile links take you to external services. These links are distinct from embedded social tracking tools. External websites and services have their own privacy policies, which apply to their independent activities.
When we disclose information
We disclose information as reasonably needed to the providers that support the functions described above, including hosting, security, email delivery, analytics, diagnostics, and embedded surveys. Providers may process information on our behalf or, for some activities, under their own privacy terms.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to respond to valid legal process, to investigate misuse, or to protect rights and safety. If our business is involved in a merger, acquisition, or transfer of assets, information may be disclosed or transferred as part of that process, subject to applicable protections.
Information you deliberately post in a public comment or other public area may be visible to others. Private correspondence is not made public merely because you contact us.
Your choices and privacy rights
You can unsubscribe from newsletters using the unsubscribe link in an email, or contact us for help. Essential account or service messages may still be necessary while you maintain an account.
Depending on your location and the law that applies, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information; restrict or object to certain processing; withdraw consent; or exercise other rights provided by applicable law.
Send requests to [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity or the authority of someone acting for you. We will respond as required by applicable law. Some information may need to be retained for legal, security, or other permitted purposes. Where applicable, you may also appeal a decision or complain to the relevant data-protection authority. Exercising a protected privacy right will not result in unlawful discrimination.
Browser cookie settings, provider controls, and privacy signals are different mechanisms and may affect different processing activities. Our website does not currently implement its own automatic response to Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signals. Individual providers may handle those signals separately. You can contact us to exercise any applicable privacy right; this statement does not limit rights provided by law.
Retention and security
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, taking account of account status, subscription preferences, the nature of an enquiry, security needs, and legal obligations. We may retain a limited record of an unsubscribe or other preference to respect that choice. Backup copies may remain until they are replaced or deleted through the backup lifecycle.
We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the information we handle. No website, transmission method, or storage system can guarantee absolute security.
International processing
Our providers may process information in countries other than your country of residence. Those countries may have different privacy laws. Where applicable law requires protections for international transfers, those requirements apply to our use of providers and transfer arrangements.
Children’s privacy
Africa Rebirth is a general-audience publication and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action, including deletion where required.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the website or our practices change. The date above identifies the latest version. We will provide additional notice or obtain consent where required by applicable law. Publication of a revised policy does not itself supply consent where consent is required.
